Seminar

On April 26th (Thursday) at 14:00 in Room 349 (Birzhevaya line, 14) Dr. Marina Martinez Carmona, fellow researcher (Trinity College Dublin), will give the lecture "Nanowar against Disease".

Nanomedicine is a scientific discipline that has experienced a great apogee in recent years, which has improved the quality and life expectancy in the contemporary society. As a result, new nanomaterials, therapeutic agents and innovative techniques for diagnosis, prevention and treatment of different diseases have been developed. All this from the understanding of the molecular basis of various pathologies, such as infections, immune or neurodegenerative diseases, cancer, etc.

Dr. Martinez Carmona’s research is focused on developing intelligent biomaterials for the prevention and/or treatment of two different diseases: bacterial bone infection and cancer, both of them with high prevalence and sanitary-economic impact in current society. Mesostructured Silica Nanomaterials (NSM) have been selected as starting materials for their excellent qualities and great versatility, and innovative strategies have been designed and developed to provide these systems of the proper functionality depending on the requirements to treat each pathology.

The lecture will be given in English.
